FAQ – Natural colours in NutriBird pellets

General questions about the change

The colour of NutriBird pellets is being adjusted as we are transitioning to natural colourants. As a result, the pellets now have a softer, more natural appearance instead of a bright colour.
The nutritional value remains complete and nutritionally balanced, providing everything your bird needs on a daily basis.

NutriBird remains a complete, nutritionally balanced diet made with the same high-quality ingredients and trusted quality.
The change will mainly concern the appearance of the pellets. Where needed, minor optimisations were introduced, with a strong focus on preserving the familiar texture, taste and aroma.

This choice fits within Versele-Laga’s sustainability commitment and future-oriented product optimisation.
We respond to evolving market expectations and regulatory developments, without making any compromises on quality, safety or nutritional value.

The transition to natural colours applies to the entire NutriBird pellet range (maintenance and breeding, all pack sizes), with the exception of the uncoloured references (C19 Original, P15 Original and P19 Original).
These products will remain unchanged in appearance.

To ensure a smooth adaptation for birds, the transition will take place step by step.

  • At the beginning of 2026, the green pellets will take on a softer colour.
  • From April 2026 onwards, the orange and yellow pellets will also transition to softer colour tones.

Questions about natural colours

By natural colours, we mean that the pellet colour is derived from carefully selected natural ingredients, such as algae and seeds.
In addition to their colouring properties, these ingredients also offer nutritional added value.
Developed and validated by our bird nutrition specialists, the pellets now align even more closely with the daily nutritional needs of birds and continue to provide a complete, high-quality diet.

Yes. Natural colour components are more sensitive to exposure to light and air. We therefore recommend storing the pellets properly sealed, in a cool, dry and dark place.
Slight colour variation over time may occur and does not affect the quality of the product.

Because NutriBird uses natural colour components, slight colour differences between production batches may occur.
This is a normal characteristic of natural ingredients and has no impact on the quality or nutritional value of the pellets.

NutriBird pellets remain a complete all-in-one diet, providing all essential nutrients your bird needs on a daily basis.
The composition is carefully tailored to meet the daily nutritional requirements of your birds.

Acceptance & use

Yes. Internal acceptance tests and practical trials with breeders show that birds continue to consume the pellets well.
As with any dietary change, the speed of acceptance may vary between individual birds.

Preserving taste, aroma and texture was a key priority in the updated formulation. In the few cases where acceptance was initially slower, birds generally adapted quickly to the newly coloured pellets.

During internal and external testing, no difference in intake was observed when introducing the new coloured pellets.
However, slower acceptance may occasionally occur. In such cases, mixing the old and new pellets temporarily and switching gradually may help. This can be used as a precaution if desired, but it is not required.

Colour-sensitive birds & feather colouration

No. The pellet formulation is designed in such a way that it does not have a targeted influence on feather colour.
For NutriBird pellets C15, C19 and Uni Komplet, the orange colour has therefore been removed, meaning the pellet colour now consists solely of green and yellow tones.

For those who might prefer an uncoloured pellet, C19 Original remains available with an unchanged appearance.
