Milk, the white gold

pigeon milk

During the breeding period, feeding is of the utmost importance to build new life.

In the last days of the breeding, the parent animals already feel the young move inside the egg. This stimulates the production of crop milk. The parents give the young crop milk from day 0 to 7, but after the fourth day, the milk will gradually change in consistency. This crop milk contains small grain parts. After a week, the young are able to ingest complete grains, which have been partly digested by the parent crops. When the young are about three weeks old, they will gradually learn to pick up grains themselves, and a few days later, they can be weaned. The young can now eat and drink independently.
