Bedding small mammal

What bedding does my small mammal need?

Good bedding:

  •  offers the animals a good surface to walk, lay, play and sleep on;
  •  absorbs urine;
  •  and imitates the natural habitat of the animal.

When you are choosing the right bedding, you need to consider the natural behaviour of your pet. Each animal has its own preferences.
Make sure to...

  •  provide dust-free bedding. Too much dust in the bedding will irritate your animal's airways. Especially rats, mice and hamsters are very susceptible to dust.
  •  put in a thick layer of bedding material. Hamsters, degus and gerbils like nothing more than digging, playing and making tunnels. A 20 to 40 cm layer is ideal for a hamster.

You can buy straw both loose (Natural Straw) and in pressed pellets (Cubetto Straw 12 l). It is a completely natural product, very suitable as bedding. It absorbs the odours perfectly and provides a warm nest for your animal, which makes it extra practical in the winter.

But, because it is pretty hard, it is not suitable for all animals. Smaller animals can hurt themselves on the hard and rough stalks. Bedding rabbit

Wood fibres are so soft and absorbing, which makes them very popular. They are not to be confused with sawdust, the dusty residue after sawing.

Wood fibres are the shavings of planks and trees. It is completely natural and dust-free! For wood you can choose pressed pellets (Cubetto Wood 12 l), ideal for non-house trained small mammals or for in their toilet area.

Extra tip: add the used wood fibres to the compost heap or use them as garden compost.

Beware! Hay is not bedding! It is roughage, only to be used as feed for your rabbit and other herbivorous small mammals.

Does your rabbit's or small mammal's accommodation smell? Use an efficient deodoriser like Oropharma Deodo, which extends the function of the bedding and neutralises unpleasant odours. This way your pet will stay in a hygienic environment longer.
