From family grocer to international animal food producer
In 1932, the Versele family company consisted of a garden restaurant and a grocery. But grand father Prudent Versele was a visionary
and wanted to go on the road with composed cattle feed. For this purpose he built a new factory beside the Lys at Astene (Deinze) in 1937.
A year later it was in operation. The company grew and after the Second World War it expanded the circle of its clients to the whole country.
In 1958, the Astene factory had a capacity of 200,000 tonnes of bagged products.
Today the Versele Nutrition animal food group records an annual turnover of about 430 million euros. The third generation of the
Versele's employs close to 900 people in its various sites in Belgium and abroad. On the international level Versele Nutrition develops
two main activities.

In the first place the group produces high quality industrial feedstuff. On its domestic market which consists of Belgium, the South of
the Netherlands and the North of France, the distribution of these foods for farm animals is undertaken under the brand name QUARTES.
Family farms get all necessary help from it.
QUARTES' concern for quality is manifested in four dimensions:
scientific research into nutritional balance, an economically interesting value for money, constant concern for the food chain and the
environment and finally, an ever vigilant attention for men and animals.
Furthermore, Versele Nutrition develops its activities with industrial feedstuff in Hungary.
The second food activity is marketed under the brand name Versele-Laga.
These are foods, complementary products, care products and snacks for small domestic and hobby animals.
We market
- Seed mixtures, complementary products and medicines for homer and show pigeons under the Versele-Laga, Oropharma and Colombine brands.
- Seed mixtures for ornamental and outdoor birds under the Prestige, Prestige Premium, NutriBird, Orlux and Menu Nature brands.
- Food, care products and snacks for all rodents under the Prestige and Prestige Premium brands.
- Cat and dog food under the Bento Kronen brand.
- Food for farmyard animals under the Hobby Plus brand.
- Food for horses under the Cavalor brand.
- Food for pond fish under the Fishlix brand.
For this we have 6 distinct production units equipped with the most modern technology, notably a unit for seed
and grain mixtures, one for cat and dog food, one for pulpy and egg based food, one for horse and rodent mixtures,
a unit specific for bakery products and one for winter food articles.
The food is marketed in more than 75 countries and is sold exclusively in specialist shops such as pet shops, garden centers
and by certain vets: a distribution network which can bring you help and advice in the care you devote to your beloved pet.
Company philosophy
Although aimed at two distinct markets and although they come from different factories, the composed industrial feedstuff and the specialised petfood
have one point in common: the philosophy of the Versele Nutrition company, an internationally operating Flemish group. The overriding feature
of this is the striving for
ever better product quality, high production technicity, client oriented service and innovation in nutritional concepts.
