What makes the composition of NutriBird handrearing food so special?
A balanced composition: scientifically developed product, contains all nutrients (proteins, lipids, minerals, amino-acids)
in the right quantities and proportions.
The high nutritional value reduces the number of feeds.
Ease of use: just add water.
Recent studies, among which several conducted in the Versele-Laga Pet Research Center have shown that other properties of NutriBird handrearing foods also play an important role in their digestibility. The improvement in digestibility obviously exerts a favorable influence on the speed of growth, weight-gain and the general health of chicks.
1. Micro-biological aspects
The presence of infectious agents in the handrearing foods must be avoided at all costs and at all times and also both during production and storage and when being prepared by the breeder. In practice, micro-biological infections are rarely caused by the food. Food infections are more often a result of the breeder's lack of hygiene during the preparation of food and when it is administered. The production of NutriBird handrearing food is subject to even greater meticulousness and cleanliness than the production of other NutriBird foods. The standards of hygiene applied are those of the human food industry. Individual checks and laboratory analyses are regularly conducted both on the ingredients used and the finished product.
2. Addition of lactobacilli
The addition of lactobacilli in the NutriBird handrearing foods serves to induce a natural competitive inhibition of gram-negative bacteria and other pathogenic bacteria. In the natural diet lactobacilli from the crop of the parents are also administered to the chicks. The presence of lactobacilli in the crop of young birds lowers the crops pH content. That stimulates colonization of the crop by its own lactobacilli and slows the growth of pathogenic bacteria as a result. A recent study has shown that by using the correct strains, a supplement of lactobacilli during the first days of life may be sufficient to allow cultivation of a specific strain which will remain active during the rest of the breeding period. The lactobacilli used are specific to birds so that they can multiply in the chicks' crop and colonize it. In order to allow proper colonization of the crop, the lactobacilli must occur in the food every day in order to stimulate the production of specific strains.
3. Addition of digestive enzymes
Digestive enzymes are added to the NutriBird handrearing food in order to increase its digestibility. That certainly allows these foods to be brought closer to the natural food. Practical tests on adult parrots demonstrated the presence of digestive enzymes in the contents of the crop coming from the proventriculus, the gizzard and the duodenum. It can be deduced that the chicks also receive these digestive enzymes when they are fed naturally by their parents.
