Other questions on NutriBird pellets as complete food

1. Are there tables available which give the amount in grams of NutriBird to be given to the birds per bird species?

2. NutriBird is more expensive than seeds. I am ready to spend some money on my hobby, but it must remain affordable.
Is this possible when feeding NutriBird?

3. When should one switch over from maintenance formula (e.g. NutriBird C 15) to the breeding formula (e.g. NutriBird C 19)
and vice versa? What should I feed my young birds?

4. Which food is recommended for a mixed aviary with various birds such as canaries, budgies, cockatiels?

5. How long can we preserve NutriBird pellets? Should I keep them in the freezer?

1. Are there tables available which give the amount in grams of NutriBird to be given to the birds per bird species?

The quantity of food which a bird must receive depends on its energy needs at that particular moment and on the nature of the bird.
The energy needs depend on the circumstances in which the bird is kept:
  • the temperature of the environment (summer, winter, inside),
  • the flight possiblities (cage, large aviary),
  • the physiological situation (egg-laying, moult, growth, rest),
  • the sort and quantity of food supplement (none, rich in energy, energy-poor).
Moreover there are individual differences due to the own nature of the bird:
  • there are big-eaters and little-eaters,
  • the size of the bird (some African greys weigh 350 g and others 600 g),
  • the disposition of the bird (active or calm).
Therefore it is impossible to put exact figures in a table.

    2. NutriBird is more expensive than seeds. I am ready to spend some money on my hobby, but it must remain affordable.
Is this possible when feeding NutriBird?

When comparing the cost price of the foods, one should not only look at the price per kilogram, for indeed NutriBird is in that sense
more expensive than seeds. One must also look at the advantages of feeding pellets:
  • lower food intake due to better digestibility,
  • no spillage due to searching after preferred seeds,
  • no loss of food between the shelled seeds,
  • supplementation of other foods and use of vitamins superfluous,
  • lesser work in feeding (only one food) and in cleaning up (no food spillage on the ground),
  • healthier birds, thus more young and lesser costs for veterinarian and medication.

    3. When should one switch over from maintenance formula (e.g. NutriBird C 15) to the breeding formula (e.g. NutriBird C 19)
and vice versa? What should I feed my young birds?

Breeding formulas are given 2 to 3 weeks before the actual coupling occurs, or 4 to 6 weeks before one expects the first eggs. Keep on giving the breeding formulas until the birds have completed the moult. Young birds are served the protein-rich breeding formula until they are fully grown and have made it through the moult.

    4. Which food is recommended for a mixed aviary with various birds such as canaries, budgies, cockatiels?

Because the pellets are developed to satisfy the specific needs of each bird species on its own, we cannot recommend any one NutriBird food as an all-round food. For a mixed aviary, one should choose the foods to be given in conjunction with the most important group of birds present, bearing in mind however the size of all the other species present.

    5. How long can we preserve NutriBird pellets? Should I keep them in the freezer?

When NutriBird is kept in a dry area at room temperature, the preservation of the ingredients is guaranteed for one year from production date. All NutriBird products have in fact an expiration date marked on the packaging. Moreover they are not packed in an ordinary paper bag, but in a special bag with a light and moisture proof inside-lining. Other producers tend to attribute a longer storage life to compensate for the time lost in shipping overseas, yet after one year the effectiveness of the vitamins present in the foods is greatly reduced. This is of course also the case when one stores the pellets in the freezer.
